Pathologic Conditions
|
At Southwest
Dental Group, our doctors manage patients with cancer of the
oral areas and reconstructs those individuals following surgery
to remove cancerous growth. They treat severe infections
of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaw and facial bones, and
adjacent regions of the head and neck.
Oral cancer may
appear as a white, red, or white and red lesion. In
addition, there may be an ulcer, bleeding, a raised or
protruding mass, or any combination. |

Some oral
conditions are attributed to various pathologic conditions,
however, numerous conditions are attributed to tobacco use.
The greatest risk is for tobacco users who regularly use
alcohol. It is estimated that tobacco smoking and alcohol
drinking combine to account for approximately three-fourths of
all oral and pharyngeal cancers in the United States.
Nutritional deficiencies, chronic candidiasis, and viruses such
as human papilloma virus and herpes simplex have also been
implicated as risk factors.
A dental
examination is the most efficient and effective method for
detecting a pathologic condition. The prevention and early
detection of oral cancer is important to your health and should
be done on a regular basis.
